A local stonemason rows 500 km for the local charity Active and in Touch.
Stephen Barker from Frome, Somerset, took up the challenge of rowing 500 km over 100 days.
Stephen started on Feb.21 and has raised £ 700 so far but is aiming for £ 1,000.
The 52-year-old recently lost three stones through a healthy diet and fitness program.
He started with a rowing machine in his home that has grown into a gym in his garage.
This happened after he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Stephen made the decision to change his lifestyle and is now successfully in remission.
Stephen had found out about the good work of Active and In Touch through his local Frome Masonic Lodge and from a friend at Affinity Gym, who told him how the charity had helped a family member.
Stephen said, “The past year has been difficult for many, especially those who are alone. I am currently raising money for a local charity that helps the vulnerable in the community. “
Tracey Rawlins, Active and In Touch Community Fundraiser, said, “I would like to thank Stephen on behalf of everyone at Active and In Touch and all of the members who benefit from the charity.
“Such support can ensure that we can continue to help more people.”
Active and In Touch supports those who have become isolated and lonely by the circumstances brought on by life, such as caring for a partner, moving to a new area, or meeting mental health needs.
They also offer community transportation with volunteer drivers and a “Shop For Me” program.
