The poster presentation showed significant improvements in behavioral outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes, stratified by baseline A1c
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 7, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Pack Health, a patient engagement platform, recently presented new data at the 81st scientific meeting of the American Diabetes Association. The data presented in the poster presentation entitled Behavioral Outcomes of a Digital Health Coaching Program Stratified by Baseline A1c: A Real-world Retrospective Analysis showed significant improvements in behavioral outcomes in patients stratified by Baseline A1c.
Digital health coaching (DHC) programs, which were rapidly expanding in the US, have been linked to positive outcomes in people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Results range from improved diet to reduced A1c, and studies have shown that the effects differ depending on the patient’s baseline characteristics. However, despite the behavioral foundations of many DHC programs, research has yet to show how baseline health can affect the behavioral change that results from the intervention.
For this study, Pack Health’s type 2 diabetes DHC program was delivered to a cohort of adults with T2DM over a period of 12 weeks. The program included patient-centered psychosocial support and evidence-based behavior change strategies, ”says Megan Martin, MPH, Director of Program Strategy and Innovation at Pack Health and lead author of the study. “We wanted to determine the impact of DHC on behavioral outcomes, including diet and exercise.”
The program was conducted through weekly telephone, email and / or text interactions with a certified health coach. A retrospective analysis of patient-reported data was performed to determine the effect on the frequency of healthy meal consumption as defined in the USDA MyPlate guidelines and participation in CDC recommended physical activity from baseline to program completion evaluate.
In all cohorts there were significant improvements in the average number of weekly healthy meals, weekly minutes of moderate or strenuous exercise, and the percentage of participants completing the CDC recommended activity.
The story goes on
“Based on previous research, we know that our type 2 diabetes program has a significant impact on lowering HbA1c,” says Dhiren Patel, PharmD, CDE, BC-ADM, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs at Pack Health. “We are very pleased that this has shown a strong impact on the behavior of other patients that not only improves the management of diabetes symptoms, but also the treatment and the incidence rate of comorbidities.”
Pack Health’s type 2 diabetes program is proven and recognized. The remote-based program has been accredited since November 2020 by the NCQA as a population health program. The program is also listed on the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Support Directory. Pack Health’s diabetes prevention program has been fully recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
