Fragrances play an important role in creating the mood in our immediate surroundings. You can upgrade your home and highlight its true disposition. Ayurvedic aromatherapy uses the properties of essential oils and their scents to balance the doshas (energetic dispositions according to Ayurvedic principles) in your living space and to fill the room with harmony and vitality.
Ayurveda divides the clock into cycles based on the type of energy that prevails in our body and nature during each four hour window. Every day we go through the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha – twice a day according to the following schedule:
• Kapha: 6 am to 10 am; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
• Pitta: 10:00 am to 2:00 am; 10 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Ata Vata: 2:00 am to 6:00 am; 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Use of fragrances to complement doshas
Each Dosha corresponds to a certain type of scent. How to choose the right fragrance for every part of the day.
For the Kapha timeframe
Choose warm, slightly spicy and stimulating fragrances such as rosemary, basil, eucalyptus, peppermint, cedar, sage, anise and ginger. These will provide you with energy even on cold days.
For the pitta timeframe
Use sweet flavors like jasmine, gardenia, rose, mint, and chamomile, as well as yarrow. These essential oils will keep you calm even during the extreme summer heat.
For the Vata timeframe
Warm, citrus-like oils like sandalwood, sweet orange, rose, lemon, jasmine, vanilla, lavender, lemongrass, lemon, ginger, and ylang-ylang will work well here. They are pleasant and grounding for the senses.
