FUELED Wellness + Diet | Classic wellness advertisements: Hilarious, plus what we are able to study from them

Vintage ads instill a sense of nostalgia and often humor, especially when it comes to yesterday’s outdated messages of wellness and nutrition. Some are harmlessly ridiculous while others induced us to behave in a destructive manner, all on the pretext that these products were actually good for us.

Here’s a look at 6 of our most popular vintage ads, from babies drinking 7-up in their bottles to cardiologists smoking cigarettes.

And while we’d like to believe that misleading advertising campaigns are a thing of the past, the reality is that misinformation (either well-intentioned or in blatant disregard for facts and science) is just as prevalent today. It might look different – more elegant, sexier, more tech-savvy – but modern flavors of these companies and individuals are still out there offering products, ideas, and services that are at best a waste of money, at worst harmful to our health.

Enjoy this little retro step back in time. We hope you will have a few laughs with us, and that this can also serve as a reminder as we enter the new year, to stay vigilant and filter the range of wellness-focused marketing campaigns with a careful eye.
