A women-only gym in Cumberland County has announced that it will close towards the end of next month.

Momentum Female Fitness at 5103 Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township will close on October 30th.

The fitness center offers numerous weekly classes at all levels, as well as personal training programs, small group training, on-site childcare, weight loss programs, cycling, cardiac machines, and more.

“We convey this message from the bottom of our hearts,” said a statement from the company on its website. “Momentum’s last business day is October 30th. We have exhausted all possibilities to keep our doors open. Unfortunately, our efforts were not enough. COVID / government restrictions and mandates have changed the landscape of the fitness industry and have tremendously impacted our ability to thrive. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. We are devastated to end our journey with you, but hope that Momentum will always have a good place in your hearts. “

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, fitness centers had to close due to the closure of non-essential businesses by Governor Tom Wolf. When gyms reopened they faced a number of limitations. And fitness centers had to close again for three weeks in December due to another government closure. Several Midstate gyms have closed or are planning to close during the pandemic.

Co-owner Tracey Wakeen was unavailable for comment. She started as an instructor at Momentum in 2008. Wakeen and her husband bought Momentum in 2014.
