Wellvolution is a digitally based lifestyle medicine and health platform that can be tailored to the individual health needs and preferences of each member. The platform, including these advanced programs, is available to members at no additional cost.
New services include a digital health tool that members can use to make decisions with their care team, and a fresh food delivery service for eligible members.

With Care Compass, members can take control of their health
This shared decision-making tool, supported by WiserCare, gives members with type 2 diabetes the support they need to create a personalized treatment plan. Care Compass enables eligible members to quickly and easily share information such as their target blood sugar, a lifestyle treatment plan, and medication understanding with their doctors, family, and friends to help them manage their care.

The food delivery from Betr Health helps members with food insecurity
Betr Health, one of Wellvolution’s most successful digital programs, is now providing eligible low-income members with diabetes with healthy meals for up to six months to help them follow their diabetes-prescribed diets and reverse their chronic illnesses.
Betr Health’s digital program – designed for all members but especially important for people with diabetes – helps members monitor food intake, weight and blood sugar levels. The tool is supported by professional health coaches and an online support community.
“Many people with diabetes face large racial health disparities,” noted Kalousek. “These differences are often related to population health and social determinants of health, which are more common among Black and Hispanic populations. Wellvolution delivers results for members with type 2 diabetes
Wellvolution is proving to be an important tool for Blue Shield customers living with type 2 diabetes or at risk for type 2 diabetes: 81 percent of the members of our diabetes care program use Betr Health and VirtaHealth, our top performing Wellvolution Tools.
Betr Health is a diabetes treatment and reversal program that helps members control blood sugar without medication through nutritional science and remote care from doctors and behavioral experts.
Diabetes trends:
Most adults in California Have prediabetes or diabetes. Almost half of California Adults, including one in three young adults, have either prediabetes – a precursor to type 2 diabetes – or undiagnosed diabetes, according to a study published by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.
