LAURINBURG – Scotland County Schools’ child nutrition staff will receive a bonus in 2022.
During Monday night’s Education Committee meeting, Child Nutrition Director Richard Jacobs spoke to the board about the incentive that will help retain and recruit child nutrition staff.
“We have our ESSER2 School Nutrition PRC174 fund and these funds are intended to be used to retain and recruit child nutrition workers,” said Jacobs. “The total budget is $ 38,965, and we are asking the board this evening to use these funds as an end-of-year bonus for each child nutrition employee.”
The bonus would be around $ 500 and be granted to all employees – full-time and part-time – in May.
“Right now we’re all the employees we have, but we’re always looking for new employees,” said Jacobs. “So we would cover additional employees with child nutrition funds.
Board attorney Stephen Rawson added that the board should add a date that employees must still be busy in order to receive the loyalty bonus. However, Jacobs added that the article already stated that the money would go to each of the employees who were still working in the school system at the end of the year.
Superintendent Takeda LeGrand suggested adding to the letter that employees must be busy by mid-April to receive the bonus, but the administration will set a specific timeframe.
“We need to keep doing these things to let them know that we appreciate all of the extra effort they are making during this crisis,” said CEO Rick Singletary. “I just want to take my hat off to your entire department … you are second to none.”
The board of directors unanimously approved the bonuses.
