The California Nutrition Center hosted its annual New Year’s party on Friday night – the first in two years since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Nutrition Center Board President Dee Butts said she and her staff are very excited for everyone to return to join the fun and celebrations.

Butts said it was great to finally be hosting their annual party again. She said she saw people “tickled to death” just to be back at the California Nutrition Center for New Year’s Eve and was delighted to offer the people food, drinks, and games.

“It’s wonderful (to be back) and (the guests) are thrilled,” said Butts on Friday. “They just said ‘thank you’ to us. We have food, we have drinks and playing cards. After a while we might even take out the dominoes to play ‘Mexican Train’ and roll the dice to play ‘Farkle’ . “

However, these weren’t the only attractions that drew people in. Butts noticed that a lot of the people attending the party happened to be out of town. Many of those present were fans of the band Osage Drifters, which was booked for the evening. Butts said the Missouri-based group gathered fans from all over the state, and on that occasion it was no different.

Guests came from cities like Frankenstein, Marys Home and Tuscumbia to dance and enjoy the music. Butts and Co. said the band members were between 75 and 95 years old and had played together for more than 20 years. Butts said whenever the Nutrition Center puts on a dance they invite the Osage Drifters, and she is happy to report that they had brought significant numbers of people with them to kick off the start of the new year.

For all the attention the California Nutrition Center has received, Butts said she wanted to wish the California community all the best for 2022, and thank them for their continued encouragement. She said she wants people to stay safe and support the feeding center whenever possible.

“We hope they come out and support the Nutrition Center,” said Butts. “We eat every day and we have a fun night (for which people can get involved). We have activities all the time. We just want to come in and support each other just to see what we eat well and enjoy one of the best Cooks this side of the Mississippi. “
