Fox news anchor Chris Wallace squeezed Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) on his recent tweet, which challenged President Joe Biden’s mental fitness and apparently suggested Biden as a Manchurian candidate, and asked the Senator on Sunday if any Comments are “helpful”.

Drawing on the concerted efforts of the Republicans and Conservative media during the 2020 election to label 78-year-old Biden as having cognitive decline, Cornyn referred to a recent article by Politico while pondering that, indeed, someone else is responsible for the federal government.

“The president doesn’t conduct cable news interviews,” he tweeted. “Tweets from his account are limited and, when they come, inconceivably conventional. Most of the public comments are written in scripts. Biden has opted for fewer seated interviews with mainstream outlets and reporters. Invites the question: is he really responsible? “

Wallace interviewed Cornyn on Fox News on Sunday with Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and discussed much of the segment about whether there is any chance of bipartisanism in Washington today. As the interview ended, Wallace brought up the Texas Republican’s tweet.

“My question is, Senator Cornyn, is it helpful to tweet out a tweet questioning President Biden’s mental capabilities?” Wallace wondered aloud.

“Well, Chris, thanks for the question because I think there’s a lot of confusion about this in the Twitterverse,” responded Cornyn before insisting that he ask “only questions” about Biden’s campaign pledges.

“That was actually a quote from a Politico story that I put in a tweet and then just asked the question,” said the conservative legislator. “I am trying to reconcile the Joe Biden we heard on January 20 that many of us are aware of his previous service in the United States Senate. ”

“I learned in Washington that you not only have to listen to what people say, but also watch what they do,” he continued. “And so far there is a conflict that I am trying to reconcile and I bet I am not the only one.”

Wallace, meanwhile, kept the pressure on Cornyn, asking the Senator if he “had any questions about whether or not Joe Biden was really responsible, and whether he was honestly up to the job.”

For his part, Cornyn claimed the tweet “was not intended to say anything about the president’s cognitive abilities or physical health”.

“I know some people suggested that and it was certainly not my intention,” he said. “I was just trying to balance rhetoric with reality. And we need the reality that fits the rhetoric, and it doesn’t fit right now. “
