The Diabetes Foundation, New Jersey’s premier nonprofit supporting people with diabetes, announced that global pharmaceuticals company Sanofi and the Russell Berrie Foundation have joined the growing list of sponsors supporting the four-part Diabetes Care Month series of virtual events in May, to help people living with or at risk of developing diabetes. The series, which began on May 5 and has sessions on consecutive Wednesdays in May, will discuss key diabetes headlines through the lens of a post-COVID-19 pandemic world, focusing on proper diabetes management and useful tips such as to lead a healthy life.

All events are free and open to the public. Those interested in one or all of the events can register at https://diabetesfoundationinc.org/caremonth/.

Sanofi and the Russell Berrie Foundation join BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), M&T Bank, Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, Ascensia Diabetes Care, George Link Charitable Trust, BioReference Laboratories, ADCES and S. Rubenstein to Family Foundation, Nannette Empey Bryan Foundation and Newbridge Medical Center as sponsors for this important and informative series.

More details on each of the four sessions, including confirmed speakers, will be released as they become available. The Diabetes Foundation continues to actively seek sponsors for Diabetes Care Month. Interested parties can contact Pamela Weber-Leaf at pweber-leaf@diabetesfoundationinc.org or by phone at (201) 444-0337.

As the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and some level of normal life returns, the diabetes epidemic, which can cause dangerous health complications for New Jersey residents from Bergen County to Cape May, inevitably will continue. With 10% of the state’s residents suffering from diabetes and an additional 36% likely to have prediabetes and the risk of the disease developing within 3 to 5 years, support is urgent and needed. The value of proper diabetes self-care is beyond dispute, but barriers to acquiring and implementing these tools make self-care out of reach for many. The Diabetes Foundation’s Diabetes Care Month will bring together government and community leaders, health partners and diabetes experts who are committed to breaking down these barriers.

“Whether it is type 1 or type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes or prediabetes, the right training, the health team and the plan for a healthy lifestyle can make all the difference. We thank Sanofi and the Russell Berrie Foundation for their generosity and support in starting this month-long series, ”said Ginine Cilenti, executive director of the Diabetes Foundation. “Our organization hopes these events will appeal to everyone across New Jersey living with diabetes, at risk, or interested in learning more about diabetes.
