Some participants reported that they found the diet “incredibly challenging”.
Diabetes UK Deputy Head of Nursing Douglas Twenefour said, “If you are thinking about trying a low calorie diet, it is really important that you speak to your GP and be referred to a nutritionist.
“It’s also important to keep in mind that if you are treating your type 2 diabetes with certain medications, such as insulin or sulfonylurea, a low-calorie diet can make Hypos more likely.
“So you need support to change your medication and check your blood sugar levels more often.”
