An earlier diagnosis of diabetes can reduce the chances of developing other long-term health problems because you will receive advice from a doctor or nurse on how best to control your blood sugar levels. The progression of symptoms in type 2 diabetes is gradual, so these signs can appear over several years. Make sure you use the bathroom more often than before, especially if it’s at night.

Another “common” symptom of high blood sugar – the indicator of type 2 diabetes – is “real thirst,” noted the Diabetes UK charity.

It’s also quite typical to experience feelings of fatigue, increased hunger, and blurred eyesight.

Diabetes can also cause recurrent bouts of itching or thrush in the genital area, and cuts and wounds may take longer to heal.

Some people may lose weight without intent, which is another possible sign of type 2 diabetes.

When your pancreas is not making high quality insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead.

The body breaks down the carbohydrates you ingest from food and drink into glucose.

So if the glucose does not get from the bloodstream into the body cells, over time more and more glucose takes up space in the bloodstream.

High blood sugar can damage any part of the body, including the eyes, heart, and feet.

Although there is no cure for type 2 diabetes, people have been able to bring their condition into remission.

This means that blood sugar levels are at prediabetes levels without the need to take any medication.

According to the latest findings on type 2 diabetes, this can be achieved through weight loss.

“If you are obese, the more likely your diabetes will go down if you lose a significant amount of weight,” said Diabetes UK.

People who fall into the obesity category (with a body mass index of 30 or more) need to lose 2.7 kg.

Carrying excess weight in the abdominal area can increase the likelihood of visceral fat building up around organs such as the pancreas.

For example, if there is too much visceral fat around the pancreas, the gland may stop working properly, leading to type 2 diabetes.

“But not everyone who develops type 2 diabetes is obese,” the charity warned.
