Karis Boys-Yates explains how she had piled on the pounds over the years and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with her daughter Serum.

This was the wake-up call that gave Karis the motivation to get well.

Fortunately, she was cleared of diabetes after giving birth, but she was told that now she tends to have it later in life if she doesn’t keep an eye on healthy eating and a better lifestyle.

Karis was told that because her father had type 2 diabetes, he was also prone to the disease.

She made the decision to join her local Slimming World group – and hasn’t looked back since.

She said, “I came to Slimming World in 2019 and enjoyed every minute of it.

“I enjoy going to our group image therapy sessions and my now two year old daughter loves to visit everyone and to feel so welcome by everyone.

“I like to hear about new recipe ideas. The last one is sprout soup. We were all a bit dubious to try, but it’s a new favorite now. ”

The mother of one praised the group around her as one of the reasons she stayed on the right track.

She added: “Anthony has been a fantastic advisor with all of his support.

“It’s a great family to be part of my journey and on my journey I’ve received my two stone awards, many Slimmer of the Week awards, and Slimming World’s Woman of the Year that I’m very proud of.

“I can definitely feel the difference in myself. I feel more energetic! I ran into two Santa Dash which I would never have done before and dropped two sizes of pants. I like that it doesn’t feel like dieting, it just makes the right choices! ”

Anthony, who leads the Holywell Slimming World Groups, said, “Taking care of ourselves and our health is more important than ever, and the changes Karis has told us about are incredible.

“I hope your success will inspire other people at Holywell who want to lose weight, improve their health, and develop new lifestyle habits to take action.

“For many of us it felt like the pause button was hit on normal life in March, but nobody needs to put their lives on hold. When you are concerned about your weight and feel alone and desperate, it is important not to give up.

“Just think, if you join a Slimming World group today, you might feel very different from Karis. With lights at the end of the tunnel and restrictions starting to lift, how great would you feel by summer. ”

Anthony hosts weekly groups from St Peter’s Church in Holywell on Thursday and from Carmel Village Hall on Saturday. However, due to the current limitations, sessions are currently running practically.
