ST. JOHNSBURY – Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) and Northern Counties Health Care (NCHC) offer PreventT2, a free one-year online diabetes prevention program. The course starts on June 10th and meets on Thursday evenings from 5.30pm to 6.30pm

PreventT2, part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a proven program that helps you make small lifestyle changes. For example, if you follow this program, you can cut your risk of type 2 diabetes by more than half.

This workshop is helpful for people diagnosed with prediabetes who want to lose weight, lower their blood pressure or cholesterol, as well as someone who wants to support a friend or loved one.

“I’ve seen so many people benefit from looking at their current habits and adjusting them to their health goals,” said presenter Krystal Baptiste of NCHC. “There are some specific goals that we have to achieve to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, but the bulk of the course is about what each individual wants to focus their time and energy on. A lot of information is conveyed during the course and we often learn most from each other. “

There are 16 weekly core sessions as well as bi-weekly maintenance sessions. Each session lasts an hour. According to the My Healthy Vermont website, the program will help:

• Solve problems and make plans for action and change;

• Make healthier eating choices;

• Bring more physical activity into your daily life;

• Reduce stress and stay motivated;

• Understand and respond to your eating instructions;

• Stay on track when eating;

• Be an active partner in working with you to improve your health.
