PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – West Indies test pacer Shannon Gabriel said he is “putting in work” trying to get fully fit again and will “trust the process” that he will be ready to answer the call to play whenever it comes.

Gabriel, 33, has been put off on injury concerns from the Windies’ side, which drew a two-Test series against Pakistan in Jamaica last month.

“It was a process because I had a few weeks off, I rested a bit, I cleared my head and thoughts in preparation to think about the next step towards international cricket, so it has been going well so far. “He said in an interview with CNC3 TV.

“I took a break from everything. I had a couple of weeks off. I just gave the cricket a little break, cleared my head, and refocused. I’ve started back training in the past two weeks, so it’s been good so far. “

Gabriel said the past few months have been tough for him because of the frustration that comes with missing an injury.

“The year started well for me,” he says. “I had a pretty good series (on tour) in Bangladesh, but only the last two series were frustrating.

“It wasn’t a fitness problem because even the strongest of us can get injured at times, but it’s frustrating because you know you’re doing everything you can to stay in the park and the injuries come anyway. Sometimes that’s frustrating. “

West Indies got a tour of Sri Lanka for two tests on the cards in November and Gabriel said he expected he will be ready.

“As long as I do my job, the rest will take care of itself,” he said. “I haven’t done anything extraordinary in preparation for a tournament or series that I’m not used to, so I work hard and trust the process.”

Gabriel has completed 159 wickets in 55 tests for the West Indies at 31.66 runs apiece since making his debut on a tour of England nine years ago.

His best numbers are 8-62 against Sri Lanka at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia three years ago in a test where he captured 13 wickets.
