Brandon Schneider is a 25-year-old fitness fanatic and the last person to credit the Apple Watch with his life.

The peloton sales specialist cycles, hikes and is a marathon runner, reports KABC-TV. But an unexpected fall broke his skull and almost killed him. Without the timely response from his Apple Watch, Schneider probably wouldn’t be here to tell his story.

According to ABC 7, Schneider went to the emergency room with his father because of extreme abdominal pain that lasted for several days.

While he was in the toilet in the emergency room, Schneider unexpectedly passed out.

“I remember washing my hands and thinking something was going to happen,” Schneider told ABC News. “I can’t remember falling to the ground or hitting my head or any other incident that followed.”

Immediately after he passed out, Schneider’s Apple Watch noticed the harsh effects of his fall. The guard used haptic messages and warnings to wake him up, but he didn’t respond.

Within a minute, the Apple Watch sent a warning to Schneider’s emergency contact, including his father, who was in the hospital with him. Schneider’s father alerted the hospital staff, who rushed to the aid of the unconscious man.

A CT scan showed that Schneider had fractured his skull and was suffering from life-threatening bruises. Schneider was taken to the operating room for emergency brain surgery. Schneider credits his Apple Watch with being in the right place at the right time. “And if I wasn’t in the emergency room when this happened, we’d probably tell a different story,” he said.

Schneider expects to fully recover from his ordeal and encourages people to set up their emergency contacts on their Apple Watch.

“Those who have an Apple Watch may be able to set up their emergency contacts, which I don’t know what got the idea inside me sometime before this incident to make sure I had this set up, but I encourage people to do so do that, ”he said.

Setting up emergency contacts and fall detection on an Apple Watch only takes a few minutes and is definitely worth it.
