As a nurse, mother, wife, fitness trainer, and owner of The Lifestyle Technique, Daniel knows firsthand how busy it is. She encourages people to keep the following in mind when setting their health goals for the New Year.

* Is that easy and can I see such a life as a lifestyle? Figuring out what works best for you and in your life is key.

* Can I keep doing this without feeling overwhelmed and defeated?

* Can I copy this in my family life? Leading by example is far better than giving advice.

* Do I leave enough time for myself to slow down and enjoy the present moment?

“Try not to focus on what you lose, but on what you need to gain,” she said.

Get support

Even if you have individual goals, going alone may not be the best way to go.

“Find a responsible partner and / or group – you don’t have to do it alone,” Deck said. “For most people to be successful and to achieve long-term goals, it is so important to have someone who encourages, motivates and drives you.”

In fact, support can be provided in a group fitness class or by recruiting a buddy for daily walks in the neighborhood. It may also include a doctor, especially if you haven’t done any sports recently.

“The last thing we want to do in terms of improving our health and well-being is doing the opposite – causing injury or a potential health problem from high-risk activity or one of the many diet programs that are flooding society,” said Dennis Hale, owner of Hale Yeah Health and Fitness. “Get a doctor, let your doctor know what you’re doing, and at least get a list of activities or programs to avoid.”

Have fun

“Get the most out of your health and fitness goals,” said Hale. “Look for activities that you love. Don’t currently have any activities that you love? For me that just means that you haven’t searched hard enough. “

From indoor classes like Pilates and yoga to outdoor adventures like hiking and biking, there are plenty of fitness options.

“I’ve found sports / activities in my 40s and even now in my 50s that I absolutely love, and I even have a list that I can’t wait to try out,” Hale said.

Hale suggests incorporating exercises that will allow you to do these activities as best you can while minimizing the risk of potential overuse injuries.

“Who doesn’t like to do the things they love?”
