MOSCOW, October 27th. / TASS /. Essential oils and perfumes are effective in restoring olfactory senses in coronavirus patients, said Tatiana Ruzhentsova, deputy director of clinical research at the Gabrichevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Health Authority, TASS.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, researchers have been studying the role various drugs can play in revitalizing the sense of smell. None of them have proven effective enough. Exercise with various essential oils, perfumes and products with a pungent odor. “Turned out to be the most effective,” she emphasized.
Ruzhentsova noted that patients had to report this symptom to their doctor. According to her, prolonged loss of smell may indicate viral and immunological damage to the nervous system. “Note that due to their individual characteristics, some patients take a long time – up to six months or even more – to restore their sense of smell,” she added.
Those who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus and are treated correctly from the outset either quickly recover their sense of smell in the event of illness or do not lose it at all, the expert emphasized.
