airbnb has partnered with MUJI to create a kit for potential hosts as well as existing hosts who want to freshen up their spaces and add a curated selection of products for guests to use. First of its kind, the kit contains 23 affordable, design-driven, unique essentials that fit into any type of home and can accommodate up to two guests.

As the world prepares to reactivate the tourism industry, airbnb and MUJI want current hosts and future hosts to give their guests the best possible welcome by putting together a selection of items that will make each guest feel at home. The set includes all the essentials, from crockery and porcelain kitchen sets to glass cups and serving dishes; on bath and cabinet products, including waffle towels and coat hangers; to cleaning products, notebooks made from recycled paper, smooth gel colored pencils and MUJI’s famous aroma diffuser with essential oils.
“Our philosophy emphasizes the practicality and commitment to quality that make a simple, good life possible, and we were immediately impressed by the synergy with airbnb in the values of hosting.” said MUJI’s President of the United States and Canada, Taku Hareyama. ‘airbnb’s commitment to good hospitality and its mission to provide its guests and hosts with authentic and positive experiences in the rooms where they live and stay is so important to our work that we were delighted to be able to set up with essential things to create that philosophy of commitment to reliable, high quality foundations. ‘
The creation of the kit was not arbitrary – its components were even chosen based on the travelers’ insights. 1,000 US travelers conducted a survey to reveal the items and rooms that make an exceptional stay, as well as the items that are often overlooked by hosts. The survey found that the top 5 most important things are: high quality towels, hangers, coffee mugs, high quality table decorations and high quality glassware. Another interesting finding is that travelers feel that the kitchen is often overlooked. 60% of the respondents stated that good kitchen equipment facilitates a positive evaluation.
