Inaccurate health and sensor knowledge readings

I have a Series 4. Last year when I upgraded to watchOS 7.0 I was hit by the GPS tracking error and, according to the since-deleted support document that Apple released, I removed my watch from backup, reset and newly furnished.

Since then, my watch has recorded extremely inaccurate health and fitness data:

  • My daily activity goal of 600 calories, which I would normally reach with about an hour of exercise after a normal work day, suddenly started before lunch.
  • My altitude readings are insane – while I’m hiking with my friends (one on a Series 3, the other on a Series 5, both with a similar level of fitness to me) their watches will be reading ~ 100m in altitude while mine is ~ 350m record.
  • And the stand detection is very bad. I happened to buy a standing desk a few weeks before resetting my watch and initially my watch noticed that my extra time was standing fine, but since resetting my watch has detected less standing than it did before I bought the standing desk. I’ve attached a screenshot from my activity app showing an increase in standing minutes when purchasing my desk and the new / current lower readings.

To fix this I tried:

  • Recalibrating my watch according to this support document
  • Unpaired and erased my watch again with watchOS 7.3 without restoring a backup and recalibrated.
  • My watch was re-paired with watchOS 7.3 and erased, restored to a backup that was made and recalibrated before upgrading to watchOS 7.0.

But nothing worked and I have run out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many Thanks.
