Is Fasting Good For Weight Loss? This Research Says It Could Be Good For Diabetes Too

Fasting can be a great way to diet.

All health professionals are a sponsor of healthy eating, which can play a huge role in improving general wellbeing, as well as in combating common illnesses and serious illnesses. It is said that good nutrition can help penetrate or control obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease. For quick weight loss, people often fast, but many people say it may not be good for health. A recent study sought to give a clear picture of how fasting can actually be a great way to start a weight loss diet and control other lifestyle-related issues.

A research group led by Dr. Sofia Forslund and Professor Dominik N. Muller from the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine of the Helmholtz Association (MDC) and the Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC) are investigating how changes in diet affect the metabolic syndrome in the body. The results were published in the journal Nature Communications.

The group studied patients with hypertensive metabolic syndrome and observed the effects of a 5-day fast followed by a modified nutritional approach to stop the hypertensive diet. A fasting diet was found to lower systolic blood pressure, the need for antihypertensive drugs, and body mass index three months after the intervention, compared to modifying the diet to stop the hypertensive diet alone.

Andras Maifeld, first author of the study, said: “Switching to a healthy diet has a positive effect on blood pressure. If the diet is preceded by a fast, this effect is increased.” According to the paper, fasting and refeeding periods can reduce the increased cardiometabolic risk associated with Western diets.
