EAGLE, Colo. (KCNC) – A minor league pitcher was caught carrying more than 20 pounds of suspected illegal narcotics on Wednesday after ‘Zane,’ an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office K-9, found a hidden duffel bag during a traffic obstruction had been made aware.
Jesus Camargo Corrales, 25, was jailed for four offenses.
According to a press release received Friday from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, several of its deputies were working on traffic patrols as part of the enforcement of the Gore Range Narcotics Interdiction Team. One of them drove over a silver BMW that sped and drifted up and down the lane.
That particular deputy, Evan Jaramillo, had Zane aboard his patrol cruiser.
When the three people in the vehicle agreed to a search, Zane showed interest in a rear wheel and eventually warned of an area under the back seat, as ECSO described.
“The MPs searched further and discovered a travel bag belonging to the driver,” the press release said. “The contents of the bag included several baseball gloves, cleats, and a bag doused with suspicious essential oils with $ 1,000 neatly bundled cash, several neatly wrapped bags of white matter, and two green packs.”
About 21 pounds of methamphetamine and just over a pound of oxycodone pills were confiscated. The final tests of the substances are in progress.
According to CBS Sports, Corrales was designed by the Chicago Cubs in 2014 and is still a pitching expert in the organization’s minor league system. The team said they learned of his arrest.
Corrales told assistant Jaramillo that he was going to Denver to teach a baseball clinic for children, according to police records from Vail Daily. Corrales said a friend from Sinaloa, Mexico asked him to deliver a duffel bag to Denver and he agreed.
Corrales admitted he knew the duffel bag contained drugs but said he didn’t know which ones.
The two passengers were released after interviews.
Corrales holds a $ 75,000 bond.
