Biden warns “this is no time to relax” as COVID-19 cases decline
President Biden urges Americans not to abandon their guards as COVID-19 cases in the United States decline and warns them they could still “rise again.” Biden spoke during an event on Thursday that 50 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country since taking office, halfway towards the government’s goal of 100 million doses in its first 100 days. But while welcoming this milestone, the president still warned against declaring an early victory in the pandemic. “As COVID-19 vaccinations go up, COVID cases and hospital stays go down,” Biden said. “But I have to be honest with you: cases and hospital stays could have new variations as soon as they emerge. So I want to make one thing really very clear: this is no time to relax.” Biden urged Americans to keep washing their hands, practicing social distancing, and “wearing a mask for God’s sake” since “the worst thing we can do now is let go of our guard”. “This is not a winning lap,” Biden continued. “It’s not all set. We still have a long way to go.” The vaccination event came after the Food and Drug Administration confirmed on Wednesday that Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate is safe, effective, and may clear the way for emergency approval by this weekend. Biden said Thursday that should the FDA approve this third vaccine, “we have a plan to get it in place as soon as possible if Johnson & Johnson can manufacture it.” President Biden says that as Covid-19 vaccinations rise and new cases and hospitalizations decline, “this is no time to relax”: “We need to keep washing our hands, staying socially distant, and for God’s sake wearing a mask.” pic.twitter.com/AWP6vcAgBb – CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) Feb 25, 2021 More stories from theweek.com Democrats should take Romney-Cotton’s proposal seriously The MyPillow guy could be Trump’s ultimate sucker The GOP’s apathy for governing is exposed
