Diabetes is a complicated disease that can cause fear, confusion, and helplessness in diagnosed people and caregivers. People with diabetes need to deal not only with their illness, but also with the impact it has on their lives and feelings. A self-management approach to diabetes education gives people the knowledge, tools, and confidence to take day-to-day responsibility for their diabetes care.

Starting March 31, 2021, the Lincoln County Health Department and the University of Tennessee Extension are offering a free “Take Responsibility for Your Diabetes Program” workshop. The 5-week program is designed for people with diabetes and caregivers to learn the basic skills needed to manage their diabetes on their own and to work effectively with their health care professionals. The class provides face masks, disinfection of all areas, and social distancing to create a safe environment for participants. Due to COVID-19 there will also be a limited number of participants. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Lincoln County Extension Office. Classes take place every Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Lincoln County Extension Office, which is directly across from Walgreens. The address for the Lincoln County Extension Office is 208 Davidson Street East, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

For more information or to sign up for the program, please contact Ethel Bonner, Family & Consumers Agent at 931-433-1582.
