KNOXVILLE Tenn. and NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 16, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Lirio, whose Precision Nudging ™ solution advances health through AI-powered behavior modification, today announced the launch of a new Precision Nudging ™ solution to help people with diabetes achieve recommended health care levels. The solution was developed together with Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH), one of the 20 largest hospital systems in The United Statesto fill gaps in diabetes care and improve the health of the diabetes community.
The American Diabetes Association recommends that people diagnosed with diabetes receive routine care to monitor risk, prevent, and treat microvascular (e.g., blindness, nerve damage, kidney disease) and macrovascular (e.g., heart disease) complications of diabetes. This can mean quarterly, annual, or semi-annual reviews, depending on a person’s risk. In addition, the interaction with the patient portal between exams is linked to improved management and health of people with diabetes. People with diabetes who receive the care and treatment they need have better results. Healthcare “no-shows”, however, are up to 60% and are associated with a higher A1c value and a higher risk of diabetes complications.
Lirio’s diabetes solution includes over 500 bespoke behavioral interventions to encourage diabetes care uptake and over 300 interventions to encourage digital interaction between care appointments. Lirio’s AI behavior change platform approves the right intervention to the right person at the right time to fill gaps in care and drive continuous digital connectivity for messaging providers, view lab results, manage medication and schedule care appointments.
“Diabetes is tough. Lirio meets people where they are and supports them the way they need to, so it doesn’t have to be,” said Chandra Osborn, PhD, MPH, Chief Behavioral Officer of Lirio and longtime behavioral scientist for diabetes. “Both self-care and health care are required to manage diabetes. While Lirio’s abilities can handle both, our valuable partnership with BSMH has placed priority on filling important gaps in diabetes care and creating continuity of care where no other diabetes solution exists. “
Launch of Lirio’s diabetes solution in Richmond and Hampton Roads, Virginia, and Greenville, South Carolina as part of a step-by-step implementation strategy. BSMH defined the range, clinical guidelines and coordinated the deployment in all departments to ensure a smooth start of operations.
“This patient care is an important endeavor in our public health work that aims to improve clinical outcomes for patients at risk for chronic disease,” said Erin Hurlburt, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Population and Community Health at Bon Secours Mercy Health. “Our goal in partnering with Lirio is designed specifically for people with diabetes and is to guide these patients from disease management to prevention with the best behavioral science, data-driven personalization and technical skills available.”
Last year, Lirio and BSMH announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop and commercialize behavior change programs that influence health choices for people at risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Lirio’s new diabetes solution is available immediately to healthcare systems, healthcare payers, and accountable care organizations (ACOs) through a results-based pricing model.
