In this diet, carbohydrates are replaced with protein and healthy fats.
Low carb diet is a popular choice among dieters and fitness enthusiasts. This diet is a nutritional regimen that eliminates carbohydrate intake and compensates for it with extra protein and healthy fats. It will help reduce your appetite. This control over appetite leads to several other health benefits. A low-carbohydrate diet is known to increase weight loss, lower “bad” cholesterol levels in the body, and control blood pressure. But did you know that a low-carb diet can also have positive effects on people with diabetes? A new study published in the journal The BMJ found that people (with type 2 diabetes) who followed a strictly low-carb diet for six months had better control over their blood sugar levels than people on other types of diets followed.
Low Carb Diet For Diabetes: Health Benefits Of The Low Carb Diet:
Diabetes (especially type 2 diabetes) is a huge problem for people around the world. At least 422 million people worldwide are affected by this lifestyle disease, according to the World Health Organization. It is one such health problem that has no permanent solution or cure. Therefore, experts suggest maintaining a nutritious diet and lifestyle to help control blood sugar levels in the body.
This new study is helping us find the right type of diet that can be beneficial for people with diabetes. “To fill this evidence gap, a team of international researchers set out to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of low-carbohydrate diets (LCDs) and very low-carbohydrate diets (VLCDs) for people with type 2 diabetes versus (mostly low-fat) controls Diets, “read a statement posted on the British Medical Journal’s official website.
In the study, the researchers analyzed data from 23 randomized trials with 1,357 participants. The results of the survey were given every 6 and 12 months.
It was found that people who followed a low-carb and very low-carbohydrate diet had a higher rate of remission with type 2 diabetes. It also helped reduce medication in participants and improve triglyceride levels for the first six months.
However, researchers have yet to figure out the long-term effectiveness of the low-carb diet.
“Doctors could consider short-term LCDs for treating type 2 diabetes while actively monitoring and adjusting diabetes medication as needed,” the researchers said.
