Right To Protein, a nationwide public health initiative, announced the launch of India’s first feed label – “Soy Fed” for animal protein products, to mark the celebration of National Nutrition Month in September 2021. Cattle fed high quality soy are healthier and a richer source of protein for human consumption. India’s leading poultry producer, Sneha Group, will be the first to adopt the voluntary “Soy Fed Product” label for all of its new Sneha Select ready-to-cook chicken marinades made from soy-fed poultry with no preservatives or antibiotics. The label will help end consumers differentiate packaged poultry, meat and fish fed on soy – a high quality protein source for farm animals.

The # SoyFed label is a step in empowering consumers to make informed decisions about identifying high protein livestock and aquaculture products and will also help the industry recognize soy as a high quality protein source for animal feed. “Like humans, livestock and aquaculture also get their protein from food sources such as soy, which in turn helps determine the quality of the protein consumed by humans. Due to its nutritional content, soy meal is an ideal feed for livestock and aquaculture. The introduction of the ‘Soy Fed’ label is an important step in raising awareness about soy feed and its role in consuming high quality protein and informing consumers that in order to know your food, you must know the feed ” said Jaison John, Lead – India, US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and Right To Protein supporter.

During the launch, #SoyFed already received support from the Sneha Group, among other things, which is committed to introducing the label to ensure the quality of its livestock and aquaculture products available on the market. Talk about, D. Varun Reddy, Director and CEO of the Sneha Group said: “Food labels have traditionally influenced consumer choices when it comes to food, nutrients and growing methods. However, food labels have only recently become important in India. We are delighted to be the first to adopt the Soy Fed label – as the first feed label ever. As the market leader in the entire poultry production chain, it has always been our mission to set the standard in the industry as a manufacturer of the highest quality products. Taking into account the nutritional benefits of soy, we have integrated this feed into the diet of our livestock. We believe that the introduction of the label is the right step to prove that the product has been fed with high quality feed, an important differentiator for animal protein sources. “

The Soy Fed label is currently in the process of reaching out to more retail brands in India to voluntarily include this label as part of their packaged protein products – meat, poultry and fish – to help citizens know that we are with what our food is fed!
