Australian Mel Tempest was named Influencer of the Year 2020 by the US-based Fitness Business Association.

Tempest, Chief Executive and Founder of Ignite Fitness Business Events, host and founder of The Gym Owners Fitness Business Podcast and The Womens Leaders Fitness Business Podcast.

Tempest commented on the win as follows: “Thank you to those who supported me on this trip. We call it fitness business. Thank you for your encouragement when my voice was loud and political when others turned away. Thank you for allowing me to be me.

“I will continue to be a voice in our industry for those who cannot speak to fight for equal opportunities for women and men. I will continue to be the innovator and creator of change to improve our industry to encourage accountability and inclusion. I will not sit on the fence.

“Our industry is about inspiring people to be the best they can. It’s not just about our customers, but also about our colleagues.

“Being a role model is more than selling. It’s what we do every day. It’s about being brave and staying true to our truth, isn’t that what you say to your children, nieces and nephews? “

Tempest is a regular contributor to Australasian Leisure Management.
