Mumbai: A Pune businessman has filed a police complaint against the owner of SFL Fitness Pvt Ltd and four others including Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra for deceiving him for Rs 1.59 crore after he him with the offer to open a franchise for the fitness center in Pune.
Nitin Barai, 59, filed the complaint on Saturday, nearly seven years after signing the contract, after realizing that the party he signed the contract with was cheating on him and the money he was investing in maintaining the franchise had not paid back. Barai’s son Yash, 25, claimed they were threatened while asking for their money back.
The police said the contractual agreement was signed in 2014. Police registered the FIR against SFL Fitness Director Kashiff Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, Darshit Shah and several others who witnessed the contract signed in 2014 The IIPC Sections 420 (Fraud), 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (joint intention) were registered.
Shilpa Shetty tweeted, “Woke up to an FIR registered in Raj and my name! To set the record right. SFL fitness. A Kashiff Khan company. He had taken over the naming rights of the SFL brand to open SFL fitness gyms across the country. All business was done by him and he was a signatory in banking and day-to-day business. We are not aware of any of his transactions, nor have we received a single rupee from him for them. All franchisees deal directly with Kashiff. The company closed in 2014 and was run entirely by Kashiff Khan. ”
