SCHENECTADY, NY – MVP Health Care (MVP) and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) announced the start of a $ 750,000 statewide partnership Tuesday to build 10-15 outdoor fitness areas in communities in New York and Known in Vermont.
The crews will build the MVP Health Care Fitness Courts in easily accessible public spaces from 2022, the Schenectady-based health insurance company announced on Tuesday.
Founded in 1979 in San Francisco, California, the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) is a wellness consulting firm that provides cities, schools, and sponsors with grants, project management, and master planning services to help build healthy communities.
The fitness center is a free, seven-minute, full-body, outdoor workout system for adults of all ages and fitness levels. They are part of an NFC initiative to activate public spaces, promote a healthy lifestyle and create “equal access” to outdoor sports programs.
MVP opened its first Rochester fitness center in 2019.
MVP and NFC are asking local governments or universities interested in a fitness court in their city or campus to apply for funding to build such a court. Award winners will receive a wellness toolkit, training, and design resources to help plan, finance, build, and roll out their MVP and NFC outdoor fitness facility.
MVP and NFC will be accepting applications for grant funding through November 15 to support the construction of fitness centers in local communities. To learn more about the National Fitness Campaign and how to apply for funding, New York applicants visit www.nationalfitnesscampaign.com/NewYork.
Members of the community also have access to digital coaching via the free fitness court app, which acts as a guide and “personal coach in your pocket”. This self-directed mobile support “makes it easy for users” to learn in just 7 minutes a day how to keep fit – “move at their own pace and at their own level”. The content is available to both individuals and groups on the fitness area.
“The National Fitness Campaign is proud to have MVP Health Care as a state sponsor in New York and Vermont,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of the NFC. “This program will allocate tremendous resources to contribute to the important mission of fighting obesity and improving health outcomes as the network of fitness centers across the state grows. We look forward to working with MVP Health Care to make this campaign a great success. “
