the current presentation at River Mill Park Showcased the efforts of a true partnership serving six local service clubs and announced a commitment of more than $ 6,000 to help local schools fight food insecurity.
While this was well received by members and school officials, it was not the goal of Rotarians Peter Redwood and Kiwanian Rick Brooks; it was just a good start.
Brooks said, “While we were pleased with the initial approval of the clubs, we knew that not all clubs could make the commitment before holding board meetings and getting their members’ support at the grocery stores, we were hoping for their support too.”
Peter Redwood of the Huntsville Rotary Club announced that the partnership, including FreshCo, Metro and Bullock’s Independent Grocers, has now committed $ 11,000.
Service club partners including Baysville Lions, Dorset Lions, Stephenson Lions, and Dwight Lions, as well as the Rotary Club of Huntsville and Kiwanis Club Huntsville Muskoka will meet with branch managers next week to officially announce their commitments and join school officials to receive their gift cards.
Brooks said the consensus among clubs is that “while we were confident we could make a difference, we had no idea how generous the generosity was and how easy it was for us to put aside our differences as service clubs” . Working together on the subject of children has been invaluable. “
This thought was shared by the entire group and would like to continue.
