For every athlete who takes their sport seriously, the goal is not just to do your best, but to compete on the next level in one day.

“I want to play college hockey, and I have to get faster and stronger to do that,” said Avery Farrell, a Rogers High School student. “Because of that, I’m here.”

Farrell is referring to the New Hope Life Time Fitness. Last winter, the club redesigned its Alpha Studio to offer a program specially designed for athletes called GameFace Training.

“It’s our culture. That’s what athletes say, ”said DeVentri Jordan, founder of GameFace Training. “You put on your playing face every day, right? Whether you are going to an office meeting or a soccer or basketball game, you always have your game face on. “

Jordan founded GameFace in 2013. Life Time Fitness recently partnered with Jordan to offer this special program at two of its clubs – New Hope and Eden Prairie.

“All of our athletes are trained based on the sport they play,” said Jordan. “So we always have the saying that we like to meet athletes where they are, whether they’re basketball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse or golf.”

DeVentri Jordan was founded by GameFace Training.

“It helped me alot”

Each GameFace training class begins with a warm-up, followed by a series of exercises.

On a recent Thursday, the movements in this class were designed to change direction.

“It’s really hard some days,” said Farrell. “They really push you.”

As tough as the training may be, the trainers help you find the motivation to keep going.

“The exercises and conditioning keep you going and keep you going,” said Gerrit Poncius, a football player from Buffalo High School. “If you want to quit, they keep trying to push you through to get you done with the training.”

After the exercise portion of the class, participants go through a weightlifting routine, with each workout tailored to the athlete and their specific sport.

If you talk to the people here, the plan will work.

“It helped me alot. I can see the changes from junior year to senior year, ”said Poncius. “My feet speed, my strength, everything.”

“I love it. I think the atmosphere is really good here and it really helped me,” added Farrell. “I’ve gotten a lot better.”

Fame for these athletes happens in places like a soccer field, basketball court, or hockey rink, but the hard work that leads to it starts at a New Hope gym.

“You have to focus on just winning today,” said Jordan. “Tomorrow has its own problems, but you need to maximize the moments you have right now.”
