Diabetes can increase your risk of eye diseases, but according to the American Diabetes Association, 95 percent of eye diseases caused by diabetes are preventable.

Even if you or someone you know has had vision loss from diabetes, it’s never too late to make positive changes.

North Oaks Eye Care Clinic Optometrist Addie Smith, OD, will speak about diabetes-related eye conditions and vision maintenance prior to a free group meeting on June 15 at 3pm.

The meeting is sponsored by North Oaks Diabetes Education. Provider recommendations are not required. However, the number of seats is limited and registration is required.

The meeting will be held at the North Oaks Diagnostic Center, 15837, Paul Vega, MD, Drive in Hammond.

North Oaks Diabetes Education offers group meetings on a monthly basis. Subject matter experts are invited to discuss insights into current health issues related to diabetes to help attendees live their healthiest lives.

During each meeting, attendees are also given time to ask questions and share experiences, tips, ideas, and concerns with diabetes experts and others.

The American Diabetes Association recognizes that North Oaks diabetes education meets national standards for diabetes self-management education.
