June 9th, 2021 // Franchising.com // DALLAS – Special Strong, a new program that helps people with disabilities through individual and personalized strength training and social coaching, opens this June in Dallas.
“For people with physical and mental disabilities, as well as for people with conditions like autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis or muscular dystrophy, the effects of social isolation and physical limitations made life particularly difficult during the pandemic,” says Manju Nivsarkar, who owns the new Special Strong franchise.
“We teach strength training in combination with scientifically based brain activity,” she explains. “Recent studies have shown that this type of exercise not only supports musculoskeletal development, but also improves blood circulation and increases levels of a special protein that helps brain cells grow. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, is like a miracle growth for the brain that has an incredibly positive effect on both the brain and the emotions. “
Manju used to care for a child with special needs and saw positive changes in their behavior and learning skills, she says. “That was a turning point in my life. I completed my Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) while working for the Special Needs population and have been doing so for over 12 years. “
Being interested in fitness and health, she saw that this was one of the most important things that was missing when working with the special needs population. “They tend to have sedentary lifestyles and bad eating habits. All other therapies focus on language and other areas, but not on fitness or activities of daily living, ”she says.
There has never been a better time to be in Dallas for Special Strong.
“It’s all about people,” says Manju. “Surprisingly, there are not many community-based offers that teach disabled people step by step how to help themselves: to strengthen themselves at all levels with the necessary self-confidence in order to get used to the challenges of everyday life.”
The program is fun for participants of all ages, she adds. “We offer individual training and courses for children, young adults, seniors and everyone with mental, physical and / or cognitive disabilities. For older adults, we offer special training courses tailored to each participant.
