OAKLAND – Planet Fitness has opened its newest facility in Oakland, the company announced on Thursday.
The new Planet Fitness location is 21,000 square feet and is located in an old supermarket at 900 Market St. in Oakland. Planet Fitness has been open at this location for a few weeks.
“The response from the community has been really great,” said Cara Pagan, Senior Regional Manager at Planet Fitness. “We are embedded directly in a residential area. Many of our members live nearby. Almost all of our team members are within walking distance. “
The new Planet Fitness opening in Oakland marks the sixth location the Health Club opened in California in 2021.
“Prospective members and the community are working hard to return to a sense of normalcy,” said Pagan. “They are looking for physical health, mental health, the ability to do something during the day.”
Planet Fitness will operate limited hours until California is fully reopened. The hours are Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., she said.
“We’ll revert to a 24-hour schedule when allowed,” Pagan said.
Planet Fitness now operates 160 locations in California.
“Our new Oakland location is a standard size with all the amenities you would expect,” said Pagan. “We’ll have cardio, weight training, locker rooms, a 30 minute circuit, a whole body improvement center, solariums, a hydromassage bed, and massage chairs. It is a fully equipped facility for our members. “
About the COVID-affected safety logs at Planet Fitness locations, including the new Oakland location:
– Crowd meter. With the Planet Fitness Crowd Meter, members can check club capacity in real time on the Planet Fitness app or website.
– Physical distancing. In large facilities, cardio machines can be turned off to require physical distancing and to meet capacity limits.
– disinfection. Regular disinfection requirements have been shown to help keep fitness centers safe.
– temperature tests. Planet Fitness conducts daily temperature tests for every employee who enters the facility.
The new Oakland facility has 12 employees, Pagan said.
“This is one of the best parts of this club opening,” said Pagan. “We have created more jobs for the community. The team members we hired said they were happy to be back at work. “
