ABSTRACT
Diabetes is a chronic disease that lends itself very well to telemedicine management. Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, telemedical treatment of diabetes is particularly important. This consensus contains 38 recommendations for key issues in telemedical management of diabetes and contains preliminary specifications for diabetes management. It is recommended that the most up-to-date information and communication technologies be used for telemanagement of diet, exercise, behavior and drug therapy for patients. A drug therapy strategy is established that is more suitable for telemedical treatment of diabetes than previous ones. With online follow-up visits, major changes in antihyperglycaemic drugs should be avoided and treatment should be changed gradually. Greater consideration should be given to the occurrence and prevention of hypoglycemia. In addition, patients should be informed about the side effects of the drugs used and encouraged to actively report adverse drug reactions. It clarifies conditions under which online follow-up visits must be ended and face-to-face or emergency visits initiated. Telemedicine can improve the level of management and control rate of diabetes. The current consensus for the standardized diagnosis and treatment of diabetes can reduce the potential risks of telemedicine management, bring great benefits to patients, and reduce chronic complications and comorbidities.
