Hilton Head Island, South Carolina offers a picturesque and peaceful setting.

Hilton Head Health

Many people have put on the Covid-15 (or, for some, the Covid-30) and are looking for a way to reset their fitness plan – be it to lose weight, gain muscle tone, or feel better emotionally and physically. Step into Hilton Head Health – a great place for a do-over.

Located on the beautiful island of Hilton Head in South Carolina, the resort is a place where people can focus on themselves and their physical and mental well-being around the clock. There’s a lot of variety from fitness classes to meditation, healthy cooking demonstrations to outdoor adventures. Think daily sunrise walks on the beach, kayaking and SUP, beach yoga, and fitness classes in the outdoor pool.

Hilton Head Health attracts visitors from all over the world – both men and women, solo travelers and couples. (They are adults only, not kids.) The property opened over 40 years ago and it’s not uncommon for visitors to come back when they need a fresh start.

The activities at Hilton Head Health

Hilton Head Health

There are many activities on offer, including many that take place on the beach.

The nice thing is that every day you can pack a lot of activities or place them however you like. Registration is available the day before the activity starts, so you don’t have to plan ahead of what you might want to do. Classes range from cardio (like TRX Circuit and Barre Fit) to yoga and meditation, from nutrition lectures (habits of successful weight managers and how to turn your kitchen into healthy cuisine) to cooking demos.

Can you find something you like? You can also sign up for one-to-one tuition with a preferred teacher. There is private yoga, meditation, dance, TRX training, water sports and much more. If you want to start a new training program, you can book a session with a personal trainer. If you’ve been injured from a recent injury, you can book a recovery session and a personal trainer can tailor a program specifically to your needs. Would you like to change your eating habits? A private one-on-one interview with a registered dietitian is a good option.

If you hate to cook or are not sure how to cook healthily, a private one-on-one cooking class is ideal. You will meet with the chef the day before to discuss exactly what you want to cover and learn (how to cook fish, how to cook with less fatty, higher fiber foods, how to cook stir-fry meals). The chef will then take notes and prepare the cooking session based on your particular interest.

Beyond class

See dolphins on the two-hour kayak tour.

Outside of Hilton Head

Not all classes are either. You can rent bikes for the duration of your stay. Take walks around the property and even take a kayak tour. Outside of Hilton Head there are amazing two hour tours of the tidal streams and salt marshes around Hilton Head Island. Expert guides will be on the lookout for surrounding wildlife, including bottlenose dolphins, 12 species of herons, ibis, bald eagles, sea turtles, redfish, oysters, sea cucumbers, live oaks, Spanish moss, osprey, mink and pelicans. The guides will also talk about the area’s ecosystem, history, and culture.

Of course, the spa is a great way to get pampered and treat sore muscles. Deep tissue massage is also a great success, as is Thai massage.

The food

Food

A variety of dishes are offered for each meal.

The three meals a day at True Dining are both nutritious and delicious. The cuisine, inspired by the Mediterranean diet, will inspire you to eat healthily not only at the resort but also when you return home. Healthy snacks are available throughout the day.

The food is so good you will be surprised how low the calorie count is. It really opens your mind to what is a good way to plan meals – and what isn’t. Meals can be taken in the dining room, outside or to take away.

The rooms at the Hilton Head Health

The new inn is just a few steps from the pool, restaurant and activity center.

Hilton Head Health

The brand new 30 room Sweetgrass Inn just opened in March of this year. The 18,000 square meter accommodation is very comfortable and well thought out. The large outdoor balcony is a communal area – ideal for conversation or meditation. It overlooks the resort pool. Many of the rooms have their own washing machine and dryer. This is extremely helpful if you exercise and sweat all day long (many people have to change multiple closets in a day). There is also a washer and dryer for those who don’t have one in their room (there is no cost). The inn is steps away from all of the activities on the property and steps away from the restaurant. If you’ve forgotten something or want to get changed quickly, it couldn’t be more convenient to run back into the room.

It is a video library that deals with physical activity, nutritional and kitchen skills, and behavioral understanding and modification in a single cohesive and engaging program. The videos are divided into three categories. EatWell focuses on recipes and cooking demonstrations.
