According to Diabetes.co.uk, doctors should also check for neuropathy in diabetics at least once a year.
“During an annual neuropathic check-up, the doctor stimulates the foot with a small plastic device or a tuning fork to see whether you can correctly identify the feeling,” explains the health department.
It adds, “Tests to confirm or monitor an existing neuropathy may include ultrasounds, nerve exams and biopsies, or referral to a specialist neuropathy counselor who can do additional testing.”
