SPEARFISH – Pete and Sara Skvicalo capitalized on their passion for fitness with the launch of a new weight room in town, Spearfish Strength and Fitness. The gym opened at 4311 E. Colorado Blvd. in April.

The Skvicalo’s focus their business on providing high quality equipment and a clean environment.

“We handpicked and designed the equipment in collaboration with Arsenal Strength. This is first class, high quality equipment, ”said Sara. “Cleanliness is another major focus for us. We have a clean environment in which people feel comfortable while exercising and want to exercise. “

The gym has corded machines, free weights, plate-loaded machines, medicine balls, and “all the cardio machines you can think of”.

“There are also a couple of machines you won’t get anywhere else, including a glute thruster and multi-row ones,” said Pete.

Kerri Jo Ficek, Head of the Spearfish Strength and Fitness Studio, is available on site to create customized fitness plans at no additional cost for members. Custom fitness plans can be helpful for those new to weightlifting, in need of a refresher, or ready to face their next fitness challenge. The Skvicalo’s said they are also available to meet members for individual training needs or questions.

“It has always been a dream of mine to own a gym,” says Pete.

The Skvicalo’s said everyone is welcome to try the gym for a day for free without committing to a membership. Members have 24/7 access to the facility. Membership dues are $ 49 per month for an individual and $ 89 for a couple. Family plan is $ 89 for couples per month plus $ 20 per person under 18 years of age. Weekly passes are available for $ 20.

There are no additional fees such as contract, upgrade or maintenance fees associated with membership.

“The feedback we have received from those who have joined Spearfish Strength and Fitness is that the atmosphere and the environment are very welcoming. The room made people feel very comfortable and that keeps them back again and again, ”said Sara.

In the future, the couple are hoping to expand Spearfish Strength and Fitness by holding off-site classes at their current location and participating in lifting competitions with other gyms.

The Skvicalo’s are local in the area and both graduated in lead. Pete is the Sales Director at White’s Canyon Motors where he worked for 17 years and Sara recently celebrated 13 years in the VA Black Hills healthcare system.

The couple are parents of two active boys and are looking forward to one day working out in their gym at the same time of day. Their fitness hobby has now grown into a business venture that they hope will provide the residents of Spearfish with yet another fitness and health option.

“Our door is open. Regardless of your level of experience, we will help you, ”said Sara.
