MANAMA: Experts have taken new steps that include early genetic screening and the introduction of advanced technologies to fight diabetes.

The recommendations were made yesterday at the close of the three-day Bahrain Conference on Diabetes and Endocrinology, which was organized by the

Royal Bahrain Hospital with support from Arabian Gulf University and the Bahraini Diabetes Association.

The third edition of the annual conference practically took place with around 2,000 participants from Bahrain and the Middle East.

The advisor and president of the conference, Dr. Weam Hussain said the focus was on diagnosing the condition and its nature to reduce complications and determine the best course of treatment.

“Because of this, early genetic screening to determine susceptibility helps specialists tailor treatment plans,” he said.

“There needs to be a shift towards introducing advanced technologies by expanding existing treatments.”

The conference also focused on childhood diabetes and its association with obesity.
