This year’s theme of National Food Month represents a fundamental and crucial shift in the way we view nutrition. As humans, we need to understand the planet, our beliefs, the way we feel from food, and our personal and family history (ie genetic tendencies) when deciding how and what to eat.

As RDs, we and other naturopaths should address each patient from both a holistic “overall perspective” and a granular focus – by combining individual beliefs and values, personal and family history, financial realities and food security, and environmental exposures, genetics and more. “Personalize your plate” stands for the fact that we are each unique individuals with bio-individual needs.
