If you’re trying to follow a keto or low-carb diet, winter doesn’t make it easy. For starters, the cold weather has all made us all for starchy comfort foods. This winter, of course, even more comfort than usual was required as we went through the last stage of theand lock. And then there’s soccer, this lovely junk food place This is oh so American, oh so good and generally oh so high in carbohydrates. It’s all enough to ship diet wrap, not to mention the heavily regulated keto diet. If you’re one of the many to have joined the keto frenzy, you know that getting your body into (and keeping) a state of ketosis is a tricky business. You’re going to want some salty, cheesy indulgences, and luckily, cheese is a fair game. Bust out theor slow cooker so that the queso does not freeze during the event. Check out our Guide to Healthier Queso and use this recipe for Texas Queso, or try the above recipe for Indian Queso with Jalapeno Chutney for something different, cornstarch thickening the dip.

Avocado is truly the crown jewel that is recruiting superstars and is the face of the keto movement in many ways. It’s high in healthy fats and low in carbohydrates, and most people absolutely love it. So make a few variations of guac to make things fun. You can start with a standard base and then add fun mix-ins like crab meat, shrimp, diced ahi tuna, or bacon. Check out our Easy Guacamole Recipe and Dungeness Crab Guacamole with Endive Recipe for serious avocado-based inspiration.
When in doubt, give it wings!
Wings are perhaps the most classic sports snacks, and you don’t even have to do a lot to get them ketoed. Check out our guide to healthier baked chicken wings. Chili is a sleeper when it comes to keto busters, and beans are mostly the culprits, although tomatoes that are slightly high in sugar are partly to blame. Check out this complete guide on how to make great keto / paleo chili.
Buffalo Chicken Dip
Buffalo Chicken Dip, or “Buff Chic Dip” as it is known in my home state of Rhode Island, is another keto recipe that gives hope we can actually create this low-carb menu of the day. Totally addicting, that’s how I would describe it, and most of the people I’ve met tend to agree. Be careful with diving equipment: celery sticks or slices of paprika are best, and swap out the bread and crackers for these nifty keto chips. Use this great buffalo chicken dip recipe to get started and adjust the heat to taste.
Lettuce is the first to tell you that salad cups or wraps can also make keto snacking really fun and easy. Everything from steak and cheese to pulled pork (with a low-sugar BBQ sauce) can nestle in these healthy green wrappers and keep your carbohydrate count low. Try this easy salad wrap recipe.
Historically, light beers – lagers in particular – are better than other varieties, but there are some really interesting new low-carb, low-calorie beers on the market (including IPAs) to choose from.
You can also take this opportunity to discover more interesting drinks and make some low-carb cocktails. There are some low-sugar, keto-friendly wines out there, but if football isn’t a wine affair for you, how about a great-volume, delicious cocktail? Keep it low in sugar, of course, like vodka (or even some high-carb whiskey) and unsweetened peach tea with fresh lemon juice. Try this not-so-cute recipe for lemon tea and bourbon cocktail.
