WINCHESTER, VA. (WDVM) – More than one in three people in the United States have pre-diabetes, according to the CDC. Valley Health is trying to reduce these statistics regionally with a diabetes prevention program.

The free program targets key behaviors that can reduce your chances of developing diabetes. These include pursuing exercise, managing stress, and eating healthy.

“It’s a year-long research-based program that found that if people were able to lose 5 to 7 percent of their body weight, exercise 150 minutes a week at moderate intensity, and eat healthily, the risk of diabetes decreased by 58 percent,” said Jane O. ‘Doherty, Valley Health Certified Diabetes Advisor.

To give participants more opportunities to participate, the program will be offered virtually and in both English and Spanish.
