COLOMBO (news 1st); Health officials emphasize the importance of a balanced diet to combat the negative effects of the COVID-19 virus.
The Ministry of Health has also decided to launch a special program to increase the nutrition of the people of this country on the occasion of December, which will be declared the Month of Nutrition.
Specialist dr. Anil Samaranayake, Director (Nutrition Division) of the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of eating different foods of different colors. He also stressed the importance of eating cooked rice with the bran still intact, and the importance of eating at least two fruits and two vegetables a day.
Dr. Samaranayake pointed out that this wasn’t a difficult task and explained that anyone can also add fish, eggs, or meat to meet their protein needs.
Dr. Samaranayake also added that it was important to limit sugar and sugar substitutes, stressing that diet is one of the weapons that will help people fight COVID-19.
