WASHINGTON – Sens. Joe Manchin, D–W.Va., And Shelley Moore Capito R–W.Va., Quit $ 2,209,080 from the US Department of Health to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources to help improve the West Virgins ‘Health through the prevention and treatment of diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

“West Virginia has one of the highest rates of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease-related problems in the nation, but with the right resources and recovery methods, these diseases can be treated, and often prevented. With a population at high risk, we need to do more to help our neighbors, family members and friends address and identify health problems. I am delighted that HHS is investing in programs that improve the health of West Virgins while preventing and treating diabetes, heart disease and stroke. As a member of the Senate Funds Committee, I will continue to fight for funding to support access to high quality health care and vital prevention programs in the mountain state. “

Sen. Manchin

“As a member of the Senate Funds Committee, I have consistently advocated additional support for our health departments to prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and strokes. Today’s announcement is welcome news to our state and will have a significant impact on the health and lives of Western Virgins. I will continue to use my role on the Budgets Committee to seek additional funding and resources for health departments in our state. “
