SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Carbon Health, a leading technology-enabled healthcare provider, today announced the acquisition of Steady Health, a fully integrated diabetes platform that uses data from continuous glucose monitoring devices (CGM) to deliver personalized medical care to top endocrinologists. The company also announced the appointment of two health industry veterans, Myoung Cha and Nita Sommers.
The acquisition of Steady Health accelerates the rollout of an innovative new primary care model from Carbon Health that combines Carbon Health’s strong clinical presence with virtual and hardware-based capabilities that deliver an unparalleled omnichannel experience of quality and accessible healthcare.
The company has also brought on board former Apple Health CEO Myoung Cha as Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and President of the new Home-Based Care division, as well as former Honor President Nita Sommers as Chief Growth Officer (CGO). As part of his role, Cha will expand the company’s device-based home care operations, including virtual care, remote patient monitoring, and home diagnostic services. In her role, Sommers will expand the services of Carbon Health to areas such as mental health and pediatrics, as well as expand the value-oriented offerings of Carbon Health for employers and payers.
“From day one, our mission has been to improve access to quality care, which means further increasing access points and improving communication between patients and healthcare providers,” said Eren Bali, Co-Founder and CEO of Carbon Health. “Devices like CGMs offer the ability to connect a patient to their provider in ways that were previously impossible for better results. Diabetes is one of the most common and expensive diseases in the United States, and we are excited to be working with Henrik Berggren and his team at Steady Health to improve diabetes management. The Steady Health Care platform is also a platform that Carbon wants to use to extend it to the treatment of other chronic diseases in the future. ”
“With top endocrinologists and our treatment platform, we are delivering unmatched medical care through a dramatically improved connected patient-provider experience,” said Henrik Berggren, founder and CEO of Steady Health. “Becoming a part of Carbon Health will enable us to provide end-to-end care to our patients, including personal visits to a Carbon Clinic if necessary. We are very excited to continue our mission to empower people with diabetes to lead the life they want. ”
In addition to expanding Carbon Health’s device-based home care, Cha will also advance the company’s omnichannel care model, which is designed to meet patients where they are by providing care through a variety of access points, including personal clinics, Home-based care and easy-to-use consumer health tools. Cha joins the company with more than a decade of healthcare experience, most recently as Head of Strategic Initiatives for Apple Health, where he led programs like COVID-19 notifications with Google, the Apple Watch-based LumiHealth wellness program in Singapore, directed. and the Heartline Study with Johnson & Johnson.
New Chief Growth Officer Sommers comes to the company with 20 years of experience at innovative, high-growth companies at the interface of healthcare and technology. Sommers was previously President of Honor, a home care provider for older adults, and for nearly seven years she served as Chief Strategy Officer at Castlight Health, a health navigation platform for employers and health insurers. She was also an early member of the Athenahealth team and was most recently an Operating Partner for Khosla Ventures, where she worked with the firm’s portfolio in the early stages of the healthcare transformation.
“Myoung and Nita are two incredible powerhouses with extensive, strategic healthcare experience that will enable Carbon to move even closer to our vision of access to healthcare,” said Bali. “As we continue to expand our services and omnichannel care model – with the goal of expanding to 1,500 clinics in the US by the end of 2025 – home and value-based care offerings will be critical components that enable patients to get everything they need for their health where and when they need it most. ”
