A number of health companies such as Onduo, One Drop, Lark Health, Omada, Livongo, and Virta Health have built companies on the idea that virtual coaching and remote monitoring can help people with diabetes keep their blood sugar levels in healthier ranges. It is estimated that the digital diabetes care market will exceed $ 700 million in the next year.

These companies reassure their customers – insurance providers, health insurers, self-insured employers, and patients themselves – that their programs are cheaper than the health complications they help patients avoid. But not everyone is so sure.
