Celiac.com 09/12/2006 – One of the main symptoms of celiac disease is fat malabsorption. One would expect this to affect the essential fatty acid levels in celiac disease. The essential omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have numerous health benefits. However, there are almost no studies on the influence of celiac disease on essential fatty acid levels. I am in the process of writing an essential fatty acid article that will appear in the Scott-Free newsletter from Celiac.com.
