Jim and Kanesha Boone opened Black N ‘Gold Nutrition, 1883 N. Bluff St. in October. They had their ligament severed at the Callaway County Chamber of Commerce on December 1.

The name came to the two owners after they had already decided on a different one. They had people suggesting shop names to them left and right, but when someone suggested black and yellow for the Hornets, Kanesha Boone went with Black N ‘Gold.

“I said black and gold sounded good,” said Boone. “It fits together, but we didn’t want the surrounding communities to think we were just for Fulton, either. We want everyone to feel that this is a welcoming place, so we painted local mascots on our ceiling tiles and each mascot has a name after him. “

After losing her brother Loren Mackley to suicide, Boone realized that she wanted to change her life.

“I wanted a change from what I was doing and I wanted to give more,” said Boone. “I just want to be where I can help people. I wasn’t happy there in my office chair. So I needed a change, something different. I asked my husband if he would do anything to me, and now, six weeks later, we’re making drinks and shakes and we’re very happy that we made the decision. “

The idea of starting a nutrition-based business came from Kanesha Boone’s drink supplement shakes.

They offer charged teas, which may have different levels of caffeine depending on the preference of the individual. The teas all contain stevia-based sweeteners, ensure clarity and support body function. Their beauty teas are similar but also contain collagen. They also have various supplement shakes that contain 17-24 grams of protein.

The two have been very busy since opening.

“We are so blessed with customers,” said Boone. “We pick up new people every day. I try to post as much as possible on Facebook, but I think it was our customers who brought our new people with them. “

Of all of their customers, 23 percent are families or individuals they know and the rest are completely new people to the community.

“I want our club to be a place people can come and if they need something we can help them while we have it,” Boone said. “Like we did with the Can Food Drive, we did a Coat Drive, I want to do a Box Fan Drive as soon as summer comes. We adopted a family with another small boutique group and I would like to be able to adopt some kids back to school. I just want to give something back. I never thought in my life that I would give so much, but I want to make people happy. I want to put a smile on other people’s faces. “

For now, through April, Black N ‘Gold Nutrition will donate 30 percent of its earnings to parent-teacher organizations in local schools.
