Equine Nutritionist James Lattimer, PhD, Joins the Staff at ADM Animal Vitamin

QUINCY, Ill. (June 24, 2021) – ADM Animal Nutrition is pleased to announce that James Lattimer, PhD, has joined their team. Dr. Lattimer brings a lifetime of practical horse knowledge and horse nutrition expertise to the table.

Dr. Lattimer grew up in south-central Kansas, and although he grew up with horses, his passion for horses didn’t begin until he was in high school, when he started using team and calf ropes.

He attended Kansas State University majoring in Animal Science and Industry and participated in the K-State Intercollegiate Horse Judging Team. After graduating from KSU in 2002, he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with an MS in horse nutrition in 2004. From there he taught horse courses at the College of Central Florida and Black Hawk Community College.

In 2009 he returned to KSU to do his Ph.D. in comparative nutrition as part of a USDA National Needs Fellowship. After graduating in 2012, he accepted a position as a technical nutritionist with Nestle Purina in St. Louis, MO. In 2015, Lattimer had the opportunity to return to his alma mater as a faculty member in the Animal Science and Industry department.

Dr. Lattimer also conducts research in the field of horse nutrition with an emphasis on digestive physiology and the horse’s gut microbiome. To date, he has received more than $ 500,000 in extramural funding to support his research program, published 13 original research manuscripts and 18 abstracts, and applied for a patent.

Dr. Lattimer is also the faculty supervisor of the KSU Horse Teaching and Research Unit and head trainer of the Intercollegiate Horse Judging Team. In 2019, his team won both the APHA and AQHA World Championship judging competitions, claiming two world titles in a single year. Lattimer is a member of the Equine Science Society, where he sits as a member of the Nutrition Committee. He is also a member of the American Society of Animal Science and the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists.

At ADM, Dr. Lattimer will be responsible for supporting the sales teams, answering our customers’ questions, developing new products and ensuring that ADM is at the forefront of new developments in horse nutrition.
